Volunteering with OEW

Becoming a Bible Camp Volunteer

Teaching Bible Camp with On Eagle’s Wings provides a unique chance to share God’s love and build relationships with our brothers and sisters in the North.
People volunteer for many reasons:
  • having a deep sense of God’s call to serve.
  • wanting to learn more about the northern people and their culture.
  • feeling enthusiasm about inspiring others to grow as disciples.

Questions & Answers

When does Bible Camp take place?
  • Summer: End of June to first week of September, Monday to Friday; each camp lasts one week.
  • Other times of the year: Usually over a weekend.

Where will I stay?
Local people will arrange a place for you to stay when you are teaching in their community – usually being billeted in someone’s home or sleeping in a church hall.

What about my meals?
You are responsible for your own meals. You will have a chance to buy groceries before you leave the ministry base.

Who arranges my travel?
You will be responsible for getting to the ministry base. OEW will arrange for travel between there and the community. Don’t book a flight until your application has been approved!

Can I choose where I want to go?
You may request to go to a specific community. However, OEW places volunteers where they are most needed.

How will I know what to teach?
OEW provides you with a GIGGLE Bible Camp  curriculum. The one you need will be provided after your team has been approved.
OEW will offer a planning workshop in advance to help you prepare.

Am I qualified?
You must be...
  • At least 18 years old.
  • Comfortable living and working in a culture other than your own.
  • Cooperative working on a team.
  • Capable of teaching high-energy children. Some experience teaching children is an asset.
  • Able to identify potential leaders among local adults – and to encourage and mentor them.
The ultimate goal of OEW is to train local leaders to teach children from their own community.

What does it cost?
  • Each volunteer will be asked to make a $700 donation to the GIGGLE Northern Travel Fund.
  • Travel from your home to the ministry base and food for your teaching week.
  • Supplemental teaching supplies.
You may want to ask your congregation to sponsor you!

How many people are on each team?
Teams vary from 2 to 6+ people, depending on the size of the community and the number of children expected. The average is 3 people.
